I selected Kundalini Rising because the form is beautiful. Dating Game has great gesture, concept and mastery of traditional technique. Whispears has delicate minimalism that ties back to the title.

Skin, draws the viewer in through a direct and magnetic gaze. Upon closer inspection we see the artist is engaging in a number of contemporary issues: color, race, gender, belonging to a place that is every place rather than no place………the piece is timely, engaging, and intriguing.

2D Artwork - Juror Patric Baylis:
Engergia, reflects more than merely skillful craftsmanship. In this painting the expressive quality of the artist's spirit and soul transcends language to speak directly to the heart of a natural wonderment at the mystic powers and beauty of our universe. Garden Bliss, surges with an energy far removed from our ordinary association with the serenity of gardens. The values play against the colors in perfect balance and the organization of the contrasts has a rhythmic flow – a vivid directness that belies any accident on the part of the artist and speaks rather of a skillful intention. A Bloomin’ Bud's freshness and deceptive air of simplicity suggests a spontaneous creation, easily achieved. Abstract and highly stylistic, the shapes and colors evolve into a skillfully compact composition that exudes vivacity, and a charm that brings joy and a sense of satisfaction to the eye of the beholder.

I take three elements into consideration when I jury artwork. First, I look at the “Objective Parts” of any piece. Second, I consider the “Concept Received” – the short or long story. Third, I consider the “Emotional Response” the artist inspires in the viewers. I did not intellectualize my selections, rather I selected the finalists based on “impact” and an interesting variety of pieces.
