Statement: As a self-taught artist, one of my greatest challenges and satisfaction is capturing some of the true depth in nature and incorporating its dimensionality into my work using fiber and mixed media. It gives the work its own special reality and life, and draws the viewer in. I begin with a concept and strong visual idea. I distill the composition, identify elements, and do hours of research. Then, I start. Not because I have everything, but because of a belief that by doing, I will discover — techniques are adjusted, new textures created, fibers manipulated, areas re-worked.
