Jewls Anderson - Digital Collage Artist/Photographer
Artist Statement: As an artist, I find that my pallet is in a constant state of change and evolves along the same lines that my eyes wonder at the colors, shapes and textures that the blush of light creates. The impermanence of things in life can sometimes be bittersweet. And nature requires from us more than just being an observer. We are meant to hold witness too, and experience the passing of the seasons, and the rising of tides that will transform us all. I love taking photographs of many different things to capture a feeling, a moment in time that I can then go back to and experience it again. All of life, everywhere we look is infused with the complexity of magic and awe. A simple insect in the garden can tell a whole entire story. I can then take that insect and shape it into my own personal reflection of time and space. In my imagination that insect sometimes will come to life in a whole new way, adding a new depth to the composites of my collages. Jewls Anderson I love the landscape of Northern New Mexico; it is spiritually and visually stunning. The open space lends to picturesque horizons abundant with sky and clouds, while expansive mesas lay flat against the ever changing light that make this region distinctively unique. The one constant element of this area is the arrays of ruins that inhabit the landscape. Old decaying adobe buildings from long ago stand alone against the elements of hot bright sun or wet summer monsoons. The history here is evident of a multi layered culture. People here believe that the mud walls will eventually return to that from which they came. |
